WI:Earlier Danish-Swedish Union?

It might be an idea off too much Crusader Kings 2, so bare with me on this. Magnus the Strong of Sweden was the only son of Niels of Denmark and Margret Fredkulla daughter Inge the Elder of Sweden which basically gave Magnus a decent claim to the throne of Sweden.

However there was issue his father Neils apparently thought Kund Lavard who was Neils nephew who had close ties to the Holy Roman Empire, was aiming to take the throne of Denmark, and either had Magnus kill him or Neils did it himself.

So given all of this is there anyway to make an earlier union between Denmark and Sweden not also happen but actually last? Although I do have admit serious ignorance to Scandinavian politics of the era, the kings did seemed to be elected.

Yes, Kings where elected in Scandinavia. A result is that depending on the specific kings charisma and house and what goes on around them he could easily end up in a situration where he couldn't get leave from the regional 'things' to buy a bog-roll without promising someone something.

And while the nobility in Denmark was relatively similar to the continent, Swedens nobility was for the most part merchantile houses, leading to wildly different preferences specially in regard to the north Germanic duchies on the Baltic coast. Denmark wanted to conquer them, Sweden wanted to trade with them.

Also, more often than not they both decided that things would be so much easier if they just conquered the other one, but they mutually lacked the means to do so and have it stay that way

Magnus and Neils would have been kings during the 1126, unless the above still applies?
