President Robert Taft

Taft was always considered a frontrunner from the Republician nomination, though never came closer than in 1940. He was considered the likely outcome between himself and Dewey until Wilkie came out of nowhere.

What if Taft had gotten the nod in 1940 and ran a campaign against FDR's warmongering and interfering in the European war?

Who would his running mate be? If electioned he could concievably change the whole course of the war. Lend-Lease seems certain to be reverted to a cash only policy and he may not turn the oil off on Japan.

Honestly, I don't see a Taft presidency starting in January 1941 terminating Lend-Lease. He fights and wins the war, and gets a second term, Along the way, he gets a GOP Congress and rolls back the New Deal, if only slightly.
